Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

The Academic Reading and Writing course is the most enjoyable course that I had since I started the first year of directly entry to the HCT. The best part of the course that I liked is the summeries and the essays the summaries helped me to make any article short and have the important information without reading the whole article and make most of the articles the I will read in the future shorter and more useful information’s. Many skills that I improved in this course such as reading and writing articles and make them summaries and essays and also I improved with how to organize the information’s and make them in order before writing the essays that we write. These skills that the course helped me improving it will be too much useful in my future by writing reports and how to organize my life not just my writing  the reading and writing is not only about word it’s also to help you to make your life style in order and organized. The biggest challenges that I had in written communication is how to improve myself by increasing the number of essays and reflections these tasks was hard to me before I joined to the HCT, but after I had this course now I know and have improver my skill in reading and writing and now I much easy to me that before. Many ways can help the students to fix their mistakes and weaknesses is by having more assignments and more work to increase their knowledge and to improve their skills there are many ways not only this way that I mentioned there are much more better ways to fix there weaknesses.

Final Project – Essay 2

Introduction:

The story of stuff by Annie Leonard (SOS, 2012) is a presentation about stuff where it comes from and how it is consumed.“The stuff moves through a system from Extraction to Production to Distribution to Consumption to Disposal all together is called the materials economy” (story of stuff / 2012). All of the people in the world think that this looks like it’s fine but the truth is that the system is in trouble.

Extraction:

In this whole system, the most important thing missing is the people. We will start with the Extraction witch is mean the Natural Resource Exportation witch is a good word for trashing up the planet such as chopping down the trees, blowing up mountains, use up all the water and killing all the animals in this issue its results is running out of limits and resources. People use to much stuff without knowing the truth and that should somebody tell the people to know and relays what they are doing and what they are losing as a results of their actions. Some of the people action results is that 75% of the global fishers are fished at the Arabian capacity and 80% of the planet the original forests are dispensed at the amazon loaned people lose 2000 tree per minute and all of the above the government don’t care what the people who live under these resources they just care about what they can gain of these resources.

Production:

The second stage of the destroying the natural source is moving the materials to production and what’s going there is that they use many energy to mix toxic comical types in comers and non-have been tested for their health effect ions nobody of the people care about these poisoned materials danger and effects there health. Many poor people who live in the destroyed places move from there to cities and work in factories and they gain poisons comical in there body and they don’t have any idea about this systems risks.

Distribution:

The third disaster point is after the production the materials moves to distribution, distribution means selling all the toxic materials quickly as possible the goal there is making the things cheaper and keeping the prizes down to keep the consumers buying, and the way of keeping the prizes down is by not paying the workers a lot of money and let them to skip there health insurance every time they have a chance to get it.

Consumption:

The most important point of all this system is most of the consumers use the stuff for a while like for six months after it was bought, in North America from 5% to 20% until it reach 1% all of the stuff go to the trash in other words 99% of these stuff becomes trash after six months.

Disposal:

The last stage of waste and disaster in this system is when it reach to disposal it’s like all the inventors invent technology devices and the fastest way to break up to let the consumers buy the same device but the new version because with the old one the consumers can’t replace new model parts to the old one and make it like the new version device so the consumers must trash them away and get a new one the point that the people must know, that why most of the people buy things and then through them away and get brand new things and losing useless money and without any difference. However, Perceived Obsolescence is the way of people deal with their stuff throwing them and it’s still not broken and it can be used for years and these actions come by the inventions changing the stuff looks to make the consumers interested with these new look stuff.

Consumerism in the UAE:

Consumers in UAE and Qatar plan to save more during the next few months, than in other countries in the region, amidst the current economic recession, reveals a new survey by MasterCard. Consumers in the UAE had very much related to the credit crunch and global economic downturn the problem of consumerism. The percentage of respondents in the UAE accessing the internet for shopping increased from 29% in 2009 to 42% in 2010 the people use mostly the Master card survey on online shopping and it was compared to 33% in 2011. The UAE , while rooted in Middle Eastern custom, is seeing a more cosmopolitan , consumer – oriented lifestyle, buoyed by oil revenues , massive infrastructure developments and a growing multinational workforce.

Conclusion:

Finally, in my opinion this system causes many disaster in human life, and that’s not good , so we must find a solution for this issue to make life better for us and other people and all this problem is not from the people to let them solve this it’s the governments problem to solve instead for being at rest and watching all the people have a hard and bad life and make it better.

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi: Wireless Technology Reformed

Sending information from one area to another, without being written on paper or through a messenger, used to be an idea that people in the past could have not imagined to exist at some point in time. Then came the concept of ‘wiring’ information through cables that spanned over a great deal of land; and during those times, the concept of eliminating the cords yet being able to send information, was a dream. However, even that dream was fulfilled, and as the years went by, sending/ transmitting of information wirelessly evolved. Nowadays, wireless technology has become a spirited factor in our lives – mobile phones, wireless Internet, laptops, infrared transmission, and so on. Life without these few devices and technological breakthroughs will be a pack of confusion. In simpler words, our lives will become a mess. Wireless technology and the services they offer have eased and simplified many of the difficulties in our lives, bridged social gaps, and made life more luxurious for every person. Sending information, whether it is pictures, documents, files, music, videos, and so on, has never been so simpler and so quick. Within the course of this paper, the history, development, and manner of operation of wireless technology will be discussed, focusing upon Bluetooth technology and Wireless honesty (better known as Wi-Fi).

To begin with, the Swedish telecommunication company, Ericsson, pursued the concept of wireless technology and Bluetooth; the company was aiming to find a way using “radio interface that would prove low-cost and low-power” (Hatashita-Lee, n.d.).  The main objective of the project was “the elimination of wire clutter between different devices from differing industries. Creating a single wireless standard would unite computer devices and telecommunications” (Hatashita-Lee, n.d.).  Having settled their mission’s objectives, process on creating this technology has begun in 1995 and the technology being tested showed that there is a chance to achieve the concept.  “In 1998, Bluetooth technology was starting to take shape and led to the development of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG)” (History of Bluetooth, 2007). These companies – Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Nokia, and Toshiba – endorsed and invested in the technology, and moved on to recruit 2400 other companies to adopt the technology and become part of the SIG. And these 2,400 companies included different industries, such automotive manufacturers, other computer manufacturing companies, and so on.  As for the name “Bluetooth”, it was chosen by Ericsson to refer to the concept of unity; loud, which translated to “Bluetooth”, was the name of a Scandinavian king that united Denmark and Norway when they were at war with one another. Following in his example, the communication company hoped to unite several devices with different functions and manners of operation by making them work with one another without the need of wires.

Moving on, Bluetooth technology was completely functional in 1999, and since then it has had several improvements in transmission speed, “power optimization and enhanced power control” (Hatashita-Lee, n.d.) enabling for faster transaction of files, and other media. And with the advancement of cellular phone technology, people became more connected, and communication became simplified with the transfer of calendar appointments, contact details, reminders, as well as media and entertainment files as mentioned above. Other advantages include connectivity of different devices, and an allowable connectivity range of 30 to 100 feet depending upon the version of Bluetooth (Hatashita-Lee, n.d.).

Similarly, other wireless technology that allowed for the exchange of information came to existence. The 802.11 radio frequencies, or Wi-Fi, is also a low cost and faster alternative for wireless exchange used in almost all homes, offices, and cafes, yet it requires a great deal of electronics that may at times not be practical to fit in smaller devices, such as headphones, etc. However, Wi-Fi is currently the preferred wireless technology to access the Internet in places that offer it – hotspots – and within offices and homes, due to the greater range and faster connectivity. And when Wi-Fi cannot be used, Bluetooth technology is the preferred substitute.

In conclusion, the manner in which technology has progressed and continues to improve will continue to surprise every time, and it has the capability of making the world an even smaller place than it has already become. Moreover, with development in technology, comes a greater and finer luxury that mankind will enjoy. Also, it makes humans want to be pampered more and stand restlessly for the next technological development.
